The Book

George's Cookbook for Kids with Diabetes was created to help newly diagnosed Type 1 families answer the question "What do we feed our child?" While it is suitable for any family, the goal is for every newly diagnosed family to have a copy.

If you know a newly diagnosed family please order a copy for them. If you are interested in helping to provide a copy to newly diagnosed families through an organization like the Guild of the Childrens' Diabetes Foundation, please contact us.

Description

The book is a spiral bound, 3 X 5 (recipe card) size with built in easel stand. It is designed to standup on the counter or table for ease of use. Further, the colors and pages are simple in order to help children learn to cook.

There are blank pages in the book to add your own favorite recipes. And, there is an address if you wantto share your favorite recipes for use in a future cookbook.

The designfor the cookbook came from Annette's sister, Mary, based onthe cookbook put out by Mary's church.

What is in it

There are 18 recipes, all tested by George and Annette (see George's Story). Each recipe includes a list of ingredients (in blue), instructions for preparation (in green), and nutritional information including portion size and carb count (in black).

In addition, there is a list of common cooking utensils you will need.

How it works

Forthe most part, the recipes use ingredients you probably have in your home, or can easily find at your local grocery store.

Simply select the recipe you want to make; open the book to that page; and stand it on the counter.

Collect your ingredients; follow the directions; and have fun!

And remember, cooking should be fun, not stressful. If you don't like or have one ingredient, try substituting something similar, for example instead of tomatos use catchup. See what you and your child can create.

And, there is an address if you want to share your own recipes for use in the next cookbook.
