The 2009 Diabetes Expo will be on March 7, 2009 at the Denver Convention Center. Come and see what is new and connect to a large support network. Check the American Diabetes Association web site for registration and details.
On Friday, February 29, 2008, Chef George was interviewed by Channel 2 News. The interview was part of a series of special programs Channel 2 produced to support and publicize the Diabetes Expo. George was asked about living with diabetes and about George's Cookbook. He explained that the book is designed to help families dealing with Type 1 Diabetes and that we want every Type 1 family to be able to use it as aresource. As part of the interview, he demonstrated the preparation of one of the recipes from the book - Banana Surprise.
The Diabetes Expo in Denver occurred on March 1, 2008. George's Cookbook for Kids with Diabetes was there. In fact, Chef George and his mother were on stage for a 1 hour cooking demo that included 10 kids from the audience. They taught everyone how to make Banana Surprise (from the cookbook) and each kid got to make their own.
There were chef hats all over the Expo with kids who attended receiving a free hat.
We generated a great deal of interest in the Cookbook both through the demo and the booth where the cookbook was available for sale.
As part of the expo, our whole family had the opportunity to interact with other people who care about families dealing with Diabetes as well as a number of newly diagnosed Type 1 families feeling the same kind of stress we felt when George was diagnosed. Through George's Cookbook and the other organizations present at the Expo, those new families found that they were not alone and that there is a lot of support available from the diabetic community.
